A healthy pregnancy begins long before you even think about motherhood. All women can benefit from basic pre-pregnancy planning which include taking vitamins, following healthy diet, exercise and healthy sexual practises during the ovulation time. An unhealthy diet during pregnancy can have a significant influence on pregnancy , either directly through deficiencies on nutrients or indirectly through maternal weight gain. Weight gain may lead to a high risk of preeclampsia, gestational diabetes (diabetes during pregnancy) and having an overweight child. The interventions in pregnancy should be aimed at improving healthy eating in pregnancy. Stop smoking and consuming alcohol before attempting to become pregnant. Reduce or eliminate caffeine from your diet. Receive the proper prenatal care at the right time.
